Lake View Chiefs Suffer Setback in District-Opening Loss to Plainview

SAN ANGELO, TX — Without numerous offensive playmakers, the Lake View Chiefs fell behind early and never caught up in a 41-13 loss to Plainview on Friday in their district opener at San Angelo Stadium.

Lake View had already been without its top two wide receivers, Chris Rodela and Andrew Young, and the Chiefs were missing running back Aiden Rivera on Friday as well.

Other people had been stepping up, but it was finally too much to overcome against Plainview after the Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the second quarter.

A 51-yard touchdown pass from Chris Alvizo to Gabriel Alvarez pulled the Chiefs within 20-7 at halftime.

Plainview pulled away with a big third quarter, however, sparked by a Jared Charles interception return for a touchdown.

It was 41-7 by the time Lake View scored again on another long TD pass from Alvizo to Alvarez, this one covering 72 yards.

Lake View fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in District 3-4A Division I, while Plainview improved to 3-5 and 1-0.

Alvizo threw for 239 yards and two TDs on 16-of-31 passing, but he was intercepted three times. He also had a team-high 30 rushing yards as the rushing attack struggled without Rivera, who had produced 323 yards of offense in the previous two games.

Rivera led the Chiefs in the passing game with four catches for 131 yards and two TDs. Isaiah Rivera added six catches for 82 yards.

Juan Ramirez had a team-high 13 tackles, while Isaiah Fuentes had an interception and a fumble recovery, and Angel Briones had an interception.

Plainview’s Blake Williams had 21 carries for 169 yards and three TDs. Mason King threw for 186 yards and two TDs on 10-of-18 passing with two INTs.

Lake View will have a short week before hosting Andrews on Thursday, Oct. 29. Plainview will host Greenwood on Friday.
