SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State delivered a dominant performance on Homecoming Saturday, defeating Sul Ross State 64-0 at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.
The Rams improved to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in Lone Star Conference play, scoring in all four quarters while holding the Lobos to zero points.
Angelo State finished with 416 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers, returning three for defensive touchdowns.
Making his first career start, quarterback Maddox Maher opened the scoring with his first career touchdown pass, a 16-yard completion to Alan Dobbins.
Cameron Dischler followed with a 41-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, giving Angelo State a 14-0 lead.
The Rams extended their advantage in the second quarter when Paden Maass connected on a 28-yard field goal.
Angelo State's defense then took control as Brody McGee recovered a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 24-0.
Maher connected with Kegan Stelmazewski for a 15-yard touchdown later in the quarter before Hunter Boudreaux intercepted a Sul Ross State pass and returned it 45 yards for another score.
Athen Dominguez added an 81-yard fumble return for a touchdown, sending Angelo State into halftime with a 45-0 lead.
The Rams continued scoring in the third quarter with a 37-yard field goal from Maass and a 1-yard touchdown run by Jayden Jones.
Maass added an 18-yard field goal in the fourth quarter before Carson Woods connected with Arthur Miller for a 6-yard touchdown pass to complete the scoring.
Maher finished his first career start completing 8 of 13 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Woods added 50 passing yards and a touchdown on two completions, while Ayden Arp threw for 35 yards.
Dischler led Angelo State's rushing attack with 67 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Israel Kaloso contributed 47 yards on seven attempts, while Ashton Dickens added 36 yards on four carries.
Dobbins led the Rams' receivers with two catches for 45 yards and a touchdown. Jaymez Beaner added a 44-yard reception, while Chuck Gilbert III recorded a team-long 52-yard catch.
Defensively, Angelo State limited Sul Ross State to 184 yards of total offense, including minus-33 rushing yards.
Ten Rams recorded at least one tackle for loss, while the defense finished with a season-high five sacks and three interceptions.
Boudreaux returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown, while McGee and Dominguez each scored on fumble recoveries.
Angelo State will return to the road Saturday, Oct. 17, to face Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
