Angelo State Announces 2026 Athletics Hall of Honor Class

SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State University Athletics announced its 2026 Hall of Honor class Monday, recognizing three former student-athletes and the 2010 NCAA Division II national champion women's track and field team.

The 2026 class includes former softball standout Macy Baker, former men's basketball player Charles Morton, former women's basketball and volleyball athlete Katrina Polnick, and the 2010 women's track and field national championship team.

The group becomes the 15th class inducted into the Hall of Honor since its creation in 2004. The Hall of Honor now includes 60 former student-athletes and coaches, along with four championship teams.

Macy Baker, Softball (2006-09)

Baker, who played shortstop for the Rambelles from 2006-09, is the only player in program history to earn three National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America selections, receiving second-team honors from 2007-09. She helped lead Angelo State to Lone Star Conference regular-season, conference tournament and NCAA Division II South Central Regional championships in 2007 and 2009.

A two-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, Baker remains the program's career leader with 220 RBIs, which also stands as the conference record. She ranks among the top 10 in school history in numerous offensive categories, including batting average, hits, home runs, doubles, runs scored and walks.

After graduating from Angelo State with bachelor's and master's degrees, Baker earned a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has served as an assistant principal in the Azle Independent School District since 2024.

Katrina Polnick, Women's Basketball (1996-99) and Volleyball (1997-98)

Polnick earned Hall of Honor recognition following standout careers in both women's basketball and volleyball.

On the basketball court, she led the Belles in both scoring and rebounding during each of her four seasons, making her the only player in program history to accomplish the feat. She finished her career with 1,464 points and 749 rebounds, ranking sixth in school history in both categories, and was a three-time All-Lone Star Conference selection.

As a member of the volleyball team, Polnick led the Belles with 39 solo blocks over two seasons and recorded 73 block assists in 1998. She earned a bachelor's degree from Angelo State in 1999 and later received a master's degree from Drury University. She has worked as a physical therapist at Kodiak Therapy since 2021.

Charles Morton, Men's Basketball (1963-67)

Morton was a four-year letter winner for the Rams men's basketball team from 1963-67 and helped the program transition to four-year collegiate competition. A two-time all-conference selection, he played on the Rams' conference championship team as a freshman before leading the team in rebounding as a senior while averaging 8.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Following graduation, Morton remained involved with Angelo State Athletics, serving as a bus driver for athletic teams and the cheer squad before becoming the first building manager of the Junell Center/Stephens Arena from 2002-07.

Morton's wife, Shirley, and daughter, Tracy Morton Hastings, are also members of the ASU Athletics Hall of Honor. The family was recognized as Angelo State Athletics Family of the Year in 2007.

2010 Women's Track and Field National Championship Team

The 2010 women's track and field team is being honored after capturing the program's first NCAA Division II women's outdoor national championship.

The Rambelles qualified nine student-athletes for the national meet in Charlotte, North Carolina, and scored 87 points to defeat defending champion Lincoln University by 14 points.

Angelo State earned 20 All-America honors during the championships and claimed three national titles. Aisha "Ice" Adams won the heptathlon, Celethia Byrd captured the 400-meter title, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Chrystal Ruiz, Andria Nussey, Kris Crockett and Byrd won the national championship while setting a school record.

The national championship marked the second NCAA team title in Angelo State history and the university's fourth overall national championship.
