No. 9 ASU Rams, Rambelles Collect 7 All-American Honors During Day 1 of Nationals

 

EMPORIA, KS — The Angelo State track and field team earned seven All-American honors on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships at Emporia State.

Marie Schuler recorded Angelo State’s lone first-team All-American honor of the day with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw. The German posted a best mark of 186 feet, 5 inches (56.82 meters).

The Rambelles are tied for 19th place with one point, scored by Schuler’s finish.

Kamryn Williams finished ninth to earn second-team All-American honors with a personal-best throw of 185-2 (56.45m). Esma Pajt also earned second-team honors, placing 11th with a season-best mark of 182-9 (55.71m).

The Rams’ 4x100-meter relay team of Bautista Diamante, Francis Patanpatan, Lamont Reed and Taylor Briggs accounted for four additional All-American honors, earning second-team recognition after finishing 12th in the preliminaries with a time of 41.08 seconds.

In the heptathlon, Abril Okon sits in 10th place after the first day with 3,046 points. Her performance included a personal-best high jump of 5-7.75 (1.72m), tying for first in the event. Okon will conclude the heptathlon Friday, beginning with the long jump at 10:30 a.m.

On the track, William Opare and Jahleel Armstrong advanced to the finals in the 400 meters. Opare finished second in 45.93 seconds, while Armstrong placed sixth with a time of 46.62.

Kaylee Price also advanced to the finals in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a personal-best time of 59.37 seconds to finish eighth in the preliminaries.

Competition continues Friday with Okon resuming the heptathlon, Vanam Sharma competing in the discus at 1:30 p.m. and Dayvon Williams scheduled for the high jump at 3:30 p.m. Running preliminaries begin at 5:30 p.m. with the 200 meters.
