SAN ANGELO, TX — Quarterback Cristian Castro, who graduated from TLCA San Angelo last year, has transferred to Angelo State University.
Castro initially signed with the University of Fort Lauderdale before playing his freshman season at Schreiner University in Kerrville during the Mountaineers’ first season of football
Now he’s set to return to San Angelo to play for an ASU program that has fielded one of the better teams in the country in recent years.
Last year, the Rams were 6-5, but they went 9-3 a year earlier and won the Lone Star Conference title.
ASU’s quarterback room included returning signal-caller Kaeden Smith from Manvel, who played much of last season after an injury to Brayden Fuller, along with Dripping Springs’ Maddox Maher, Cedar Park’s Ayden Arp and Deerd Park’s Landon Kieselhorst.
At the time of his signing with Fort Lauderdale in February 2025, former TLCA head coach Bradley Oh praised Castro’s potential as a college quarterback.
“He’s just an athletic cat with a live arm. He can sling it,” Oh said. “He’s a great leader and has the intangibles you want in a quarterback.”
