TYLER, TX — The No. 3-seeded Angelo State baseball team locked down Metro State-Denver 5-1 on Thursday in its opening game at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament.

The game was tied 1-1 before the Rams scored twice in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take control.
Blake Wilhoite had an RBI single for the go-ahead run in the fifth, and Gamaliel Jones followed with an RBI double.
In the sixth, Tate Greene had an RBI double to make it 4-1 before Brett Smajstrla’s RBI single pushed it to 5-1.
Payton Bush went 2-for-3 to lead the offense, while Smajstrla went 2-for-4.
The Rams improved to 41-17, while Metro State fell to 38-17.
