BIG SPRING, TX — The Reagan County Lady Owls are headed to the regional semifinals for the first time in program history.
Reagan County defeated Stamford 12-5 on Wednesday in the area round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs in Big Spring.
It was the 11th win in the last 12 games for Reagan County, which improved its record to 20-6.
The Lady Owls will now face Clarendon (8-10-1) or Tahoka (6-12) next week for the right to move on to the regional final.
Reagan County has been one of the best teams in West Texas all season with an explosive offense that averages 13 runs per game. They’ve scored a combined 37 runs in their three playoff games.
The Lady Owls have four players — Yasmine Wells, Magaley Castillo, Brooklynn Reyes and Vanessa Ortiz — with a batting average over .500.
Reagan County had a 19-4 season last year, but the Lady Owls lost in the area round of the playoffs to Haskell. A potential rematch with Haskell looms in the regional final.
