Former Central QB McIvor Accepts Minicamp Invite From Dallas Cowboys

ARLINGTON, TX — San Angelo Central graduate Maverick McIvor has reportedly accepted an invite to attend next month’s rookie minicamp with the Dallas Cowboys.

McIvor played his senior season last year at Western Kentucky University and was named the MVP of the New Orleans Bowl in his final game.

The 6-foot-2 quarterback led the Hilltoppers to a 5-2 start last year before a shoulder injury sidelined him and ultimately cost him his starting job.

His potential has been apparent, however, since his high school days in San Angelo.

McIvor received more than 20 NCAA Division I college offers while at Central before signing with Texas Tech.

Injuries derailed his time in Lubbock, but he rejuvenated his career at Abilene Christian University, highlighted by a junior season when he threw for 3,820 yards with 30 touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to their first-ever conference championship at the NCAA Division I FCS level.

The 2019 Central graduate will now get an opportunity with a Cowboys team that didn’t sign another QB in free agency or draft a signal caller.

Though it’s a longshot, he has a chance to follow in the footsteps of another former undrafted free agent who became the starting QB in Dallas — Tony Romo.

Rookie minicamps are three-day training sessions that give players an opportunity to impress a team enough to earn a spot on its 90-man roster and get invited back for training camp in the summer.

McIvor has also received an offer to attend the Chicago Bears’ rookie minicamp.
