Former Central Star Martin Continues Red-Hot Start With White Sox

SACRAMENTO, CA — Former San Angelo Central pitcher Davis Martin led the Chicago White Sox to another win Friday, continuing his stellar start to the season.

Martin allowed only three hits and one run in seven innings of work. He struck out four and walked two as the White Sox beat the A’s 9-2.

Chicago now has a record of 7-13, and the team is 3-1 when Martin is on the mound.

Even in the game Martin didn’t win, he still allowed just two runs and seven hits in seven innings, but his offense gave him no support in a 2-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

Martin, who debuted in the majors in 2022, is enjoying the best start to his career.

In 25 innings this year, he has given up only six runs and 19 hits. He has struck out 19 and walked six. His 2.16 ERA is the 16th-best mark in the league, while his 1.00 WHIP ranks 22nd. Opponents have a .218 batting average against him.

The 29-year-old, who graduated from Central in 2015, will look to keep it going in his next start at 2:40 p.m. Thursday when he visits the Arizona Diamondbacks.
