SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 14-ranked Angelo State University softball team will be at home for the second-to-last time in the regular season this weekend when the Rambelles host Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State at Mayer Field.
ASU will have a doubleheader against Western New Mexico beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday against Sul Ross State.
The Belles are currently 30-9 overall and 19-5 in Lone Star Conference play. They’re coming off a 3-2 loss to UT Permian Basin last week, which snapped a three-game winning streak after they walloped the Falcons by a combined score of 40-10 in the other three games of the series.
Western New Mexico enters this weekend with a 16-20 overall record and a 12-14 mark in LSC play. The Mustangs have a dangerous offense with a .301 batting average and 6.2 runs per game. They also rank second in the LSC with 51 home runs this year.
Their pitching staff, however, has a 6.67 ERA, so a shootout could be in the works in that series.
ASU is 25-1 all-time against Western New Mexico.
Sul Ross is 6-27 overall and 4-22 in LSC play as the Lobos continue to transition to the Division II level.
ASU is 4-0 all-time against Sul Ross.
The Belles will play at St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s next week before returning home for the final time against Lubbock Christian on April 24 and Midwestern State on April 26.
