WOLFFORTH, TX — Lake View senior Kentrell Johnson won three gold medals Thursday to lead the Chiefs to a third-place finish at the District 5-4A Track and Field Championships in Wolfforth.
Johnson won the 100-meter dash in 10.68 seconds, followed by a win in the 200 in 21.58. He then helped the 4x200 relay — along with Gabriel Alvarez, Calvin Whitfield and Chris Rodela — to a win in 1:29.34.
Nathaniel Gonzales also brought home a gold medal in the 400 in 50.33, while the 4x400 relay of Gonzales, Jemariae Lacy, Rodela and Whitfield won in 3:25.45
The Chiefs’ five gold medals helped power Lake View to a third-place finish in the team standings with 91 points. Lubbock-Cooper Liberty claimed the title with 208 points, well ahead of runner-up Frenship Memorial by 111 points.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for the area meet. Lake View had top-four finishes from Whitfield, who was third in the 800 (2:04.46), and Christian Espara, who was third in the 300 hurdles (41.81).
Lake View’s girls were sixth place in the team standings with 27 points. Frenship Memorial clipped Lubbock-Cooper Liberty for the title, 185-178.
The Maidens qualified for the area meet in three meets. Lea’la Leal was second in the 3200 (13:01.26) and fourth in the 1600 (5:59.15), while Pamela Ayer was fourth in the 300 hurdles (51.18).
