CLYDE, TX — The No. 15-ranked Wall Lady Hawks went on the road Thursday and upset top-ranked Clyde 5-0.
It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Bulldogs, who had won their first 20 games.
After four scoreless innings, Wall stunned Clyde freshman ace Brynli Reynolds with five runs in the fifth inning.
Elise Jordan hit a two-run single to get the Lady Hawks on the board, then Madee Williams singled in another run for a 3-0 lead. Wall added two more runs on an error.
Reynolds had allowed only four runs all season — over nearly 100 innings — before Thursday.
Reynolds struck out 14 Lady Hawks during the game, but Wall’s offense managed to produce seven hits and drew two walks. Emery Harper went 2-for-4 with a double, while Jordan was 2-for-4 and Shyanne Floyd was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Williams delivered a masterpiece of a game in the pitcher’s circle for Wall, allowing only two hits while striking out 11 and walking none.
The Lady Hawks’ defense was perfect behind her with no errors, while Clyde’s defense committed two errors.
Wall improved to 23-4 overall and 7-2 in District 6-3A, while Clyde fell to 20-1, 7-1.
The two teams will meet again at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Wall.
