SAN ANGELO, TX — City officials from multiple boards will gather Tuesday evening for a special joint workshop centered on the launch of San Angelo’s new comprehensive community plan.
The City Council Special Joint Workshop is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the City Council chambers at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive.
The session brings together the San Angelo City Council, the City of San Angelo Development Corporation, the Planning Commission, and the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board.
The main agenda item is a presentation, discussion, and direction on the city’s new comprehensive plan. The Olsson Consulting team, the firm overseeing the San Angelo Community Plan, will deliver the presentation.
The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed live on the City of San Angelo’s YouTube channel and on SATV (Optimum Channel 17).
The full agenda is available at sanangelo.gov/CouncilAgenda.
The Community Plan is a community-driven effort to create a shared long-term vision for the city’s future. It will bring together priorities for growth and development, transportation and mobility, parks and open spaces, economic opportunity, infrastructure, and quality of life into one coordinated framework to guide future decisions.
Planning and Development Services Director Aaron Vannoy has stressed the role of public input: “Great communities don’t happen by accident. They are shaped by the people who care about them. We encourage residents to get involved and help create a vision that reflects what makes San Angelo special and where we want to go in the future.”
San Angelo’s previous comprehensive plan was adopted in 2003 and updated in the 2009 Strategic Plan. City leaders have described the new effort as overdue and important for aligning future capital improvement priorities, grant applications, and growth decisions. Earlier this year, the City Council authorized a contract with Olsson not to exceed $900,000 for the work.
Residents can learn more, sign up for updates, and find ways to participate at OurStorySanAngelo.com. A community survey is expected in November, with a Virtual Open House to follow the initial kickoff events.
The joint workshop is one of several launch activities. A Community Launch Party is set for Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, 630 S. Oakes St. The family-friendly event will include interactive displays and opportunities to meet the project team and share ideas about the city’s future.
