Texas Trooper Honored for Service During Kerr County Floods

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety recently honored Jack Flanders, a member of DPS Recruit Class D-2025, for his service during the recovery efforts following the devastating Kerr County floods in 2025.

Last July 4, heavy rain caused the Guadalupe River to rise by 36 feet, hitting Kerr County the hardest, flooding campsites, homes and towns.

All told, 117 people died in Kerr County, including 25 girls at Camp Mystic. One person from San Angelo, Steve Edwards, also died in the Kerr County floods.

Troopers like Flanders helped with search-and-rescue missions, resulting in hundreds of lives saved, according to DPS.

Flanders worked in the DPS Crime Lab before being accepted to Class D-2025.

"Trooper Flanders’ professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication to serving others played a critical role in supporting recovery operations and providing comfort to families during an unimaginable tragedy," DPS stated. "We thank him for his incredible service to this point and look forward to all that he will do as a Trooper in this next chapter with DPS."
