Here’s Your Labor Day Weekend Forecast

The NWS stated that two rounds of scattered showers and storms are expected across West Central Texas today. Round 1 is the ongoing activity moving into the Heartland this morning, especially from Brownwood south to San Saba. This is moving slowly west and southwest and will likely dissipate by mid-morning. Mainly light to briefly moderate rainfall is expected.

Round 2 will occur this afternoon as more showers and storms redevelop farther west, closer to the Concho Valley and Edwards Plateau. These will still be scattered, but rainfall may be a little heavier. Nothing severe is expected, but some summer downpours of up to an inch of rain, occasional lightning, and gusty winds will be possible.

In both cases, the rain will not be widespread, and a lot of areas will miss out and remain dry, the NWS stated. 

Friday highs are forecast in the lower 90s to around 103 degrees, with the hottest readings in Sweetwater at 103, Haskell at 101, and both Abilene and San Angelo at 100. Brady is expected to see the coolest high at 91. Southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph are forecast. 

Saturday highs are expected in the mid-90s to around 102 degrees under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with isolated showers and storms possible and south winds of 10 to 15 mph. 

Sunday and Monday highs are forecast in the mid-90s to around 101 degrees, with southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph both days. 

Warmer-than-normal temperatures are expected to persist through next week. Forecast highs through Thursday include 100 degrees in Abilene and Sweetwater most days, 98 in San Angelo, and readings in the mid- to upper 90s for most other locations in the region. Overnight lows are generally expected in the low to upper 70s.
