SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for parts of West Central Texas through 10 p.m., warning that conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe storms across the region.
The watch includes 24 counties, including Tom Green, Taylor, Brown, Coleman, Runnels, Nolan, Callahan, Concho, Crockett, Fisher, Haskell, Irion, Jones, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Schleicher, Shackelford, Sterling, Sutton and Throckmorton.
Major cities and towns included in the watch area include San Angelo, Abilene, Brownwood, Sweetwater, Ballinger, Coleman, Brady, Mason, Junction, Ozona, Sonora and Stamford, among others.
A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions, stay alert for warnings and have a plan to seek shelter if severe weather develops.
Emergency officials recommend:
Monitoring local forecasts and weather alerts
Having multiple ways to receive warnings
Moving to a sturdy building if severe weather approaches
Seeking shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows if a tornado warning is issued
