Central Bobcats Dominate Belton on Friday Night

SAN ANGELO, TX — Central's Zey Johnson scored five times, and the Bobcats' offense rolled throughout the contest as Central hung 52 points on the Belton Tigers at San Angelo Stadium on Friday night. Central claimed its most dominating win of the season, 52-29.

The Bobcats struck early in this contest. After the defense forced a punt on the Tigers' opening possession, Central scored on a quick, 3-play drive ending with a 32-yard touchdown pass from Micah Smith to Gavin Johnson.

Belton answered with a score of its own, but Central retook the lead late in the first quarter with a field goal.

Central retook the lead later in the second quarter after driving 70 yards down the field. Mainly behind the legs of the freight train that is Zey Johnson, Central capped off the drive with Johnson's first rushing touchdown of the night.

The Bobcats forced another stop, and the offense took advantage. Just outside the 5-yard line, Smith avoided pressure before he found Zey Johnson in the flat. Johnson scored his second receiving touchdown in as many weeks as Central took a 24-10 advantage with four minutes to go in the half.

Belton would score again before halftime on a drive where the Tigers finally managed to run the football. With 59 seconds left, Central had one more chance to score, and the Bobcats delivered. Two seconds remained on the clock, and the Bobcats had the ball at Belton's 35-yard line. Smith loaded up and launched a deep pass to Gavin Johnson, who hauled in the football in the back of the end zone. 

Both teams headed to the locker rooms with Central up two touchdowns, 31-17.

The Bobcats picked up where they left off to start the third quarter. Zey Johnson continued to dominate on the ground, scoring the Bobcats' next three touchdowns, including a 70-yard sprint midway through the third quarter.

Belton tried to answer and, at times, did look great on offense, but Central proved too much throughout the game.

The Tigers answered the Bobcats' first score of the second half to pull back within 14 points, but never clawed closer than that.

Johnson finished the contest with five touchdowns (four rushing and one receiving) and near if not over 300 yards of total offense.

The Bobcats drained the remaining time on the clock in the fourth quarter and claimed a 52-29 victory.
