LA PLATA, MD — A professional cornhole player who lost all four limbs as an infant is accused of fatally shooting a passenger during an argument while driving in southern Maryland, authorities said Monday.
Dayton James Webber, 27, was arrested in Albemarle County, Virginia, and charged as a fugitive from justice, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Officials in Maryland are seeking his extradition, where he faces pending charges including first-degree murder, second-degree murder and related offenses.
Investigators said the shooting occurred in La Plata, where Webber allegedly pulled over and asked two passengers in the back seat to help remove the victim from the vehicle. The witnesses refused, exited the car and flagged down police, authorities said. Webber then fled the scene with the victim still inside the vehicle.
About two hours later, a resident in nearby Charlotte Hall — roughly 10 miles away — reported a body in a yard. Responding officers found the victim, identified as Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Webber was profiled by ESPN in 2023. His parents said doctors amputated his arms and legs when he was 10 months old to save his life after a blood infection led to sepsis. He later became a professional cornhole player, competing in the game in which participants toss bean bags toward a hole on a slanted board.
The American Cornhole League said in a statement posted to Facebook that it is aware of the allegations involving Webber but declined further comment, citing an active legal case.

San Angelo would have paid him money to come to San Angelo and attract more like him. Some feel that San Angelo yearns to be the Cornhole capital of the world! Bringing in another killer is a small price to pay.

We don't need no fancy city slickers 'round here. Our homegrown murderers whose style resembles a saloon knife fight or Indian ambush suit us just fine. We have a certain way of doing things here, and that means direct, brute force and moderate—not outlandish—storylines.
