Missing Man Recovered After 32-Hour Multi-Agency Search in Tom Green County

SAN ANGELO, TX - At approximately 9:19 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Allen Road and Chula Vista Lane in reference to a missing person.

The individual, Timothy Rankin, 24, was reported missing after leaving the monastery while experiencing personal difficulties that raised concern for his well-being. Due to those circumstances and the rugged terrain in the surrounding area, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office initiated a coordinated search. After an extensive search lasting approximately thirty-two hours, the individual reported missing was safely located at approximately 4:09 p.m. today, in a remote area of the county.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, DPS Aircraft Operations, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the San Angelo Police Department, the San Angelo Fire Department, and the Christoval Volunteer Fire Department joined personnel from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office. Search teams worked throughout both days, utilizing ground personnel, ATVs, four-wheelers, drones, and aircraft to systematically cover the search area.

Texas Search and Rescue had also been mobilized and was en route with additional specialized resources when the individual was located, allowing those teams to safely stand down before arrival.

Through the coordinated efforts of the participating agencies and the use of both ground and aerial search assets, Mr. Rankin was located and recovered safely. The person is now receiving appropriate care.

Sheriff Nick Hanna stated, "This was a great example of how quickly agencies in our region come together when someone may be in danger. Deputies and responders covered a large and rugged area using every tool available, both on the ground and in the air. Thanks to the teamwork and persistence of everyone involved, we were able to locate him safely and bring this search to a successful conclusion."

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office extends its appreciation to all agencies and responders who assisted in the operation.
