CHRISTOVAL, TX — Tom Green County has secured a $1 million federal grant to build a bridge over the South Concho River at the Mineral Wells low-water crossing, addressing long-standing safety concerns for residents during heavy rains.
The funding will go to the Texas Department of Transportation for planning and construction of the bridge at the crossing, located just north of Christoval off U.S. Highway 277.
Pct. 4 Commissioner Shawn Nanny said the grant follows years of advocacy, including an application submitted a year ago with U.S. Rep. August Pfluger, R-San Angelo.
The existing low-water crossing functions under normal conditions but becomes impassable and hazardous during floods, isolating residents and preventing access to main roads.
The project aims to improve safety and accessibility for the community, which has relied on the crossing — a popular spot for local anglers — despite recurring flood risks.

Yes those of us that have been out here 30+ years understand what a river can do…I do appreciate all the hard work YOU have put forth to procure this money. I do hope the low water crossing will stay as is however understand the “times are changing”. A new “eyesore” is apparently what is needed for those that want the government to provide city conveniences in a once rural area. Try to keep the beautiful big pecan trees standing🙏
Some people feel a certain person that has filed a lawsuit against the county and a ranching family deserves all the credit🤣 but those of us that have seen your hard work, understanding your position and the empathy for all involved give YOU the well deserved credit!
Hopefully the county taxpayers will see the lawsuit against the county dismissed as this should now be a MOOT point!
As for the ranching family I pray your suit will be dismissed as well! My empathy as my Uncle Billy had to give up sections of his OC RANCH for Lake Allen Henry.
”love thy neighbor as thyself” comes to mind but dang sure hard with certain people!!😉🙏
Thanks again SHAWN!

Kids, this bridge is racist and is a product of systemic racial injustice that disadvantages the oppressed by artificially enabling property owners to exert influence over immigrant minorities. If only someone would DO something about all of that...

So what you're saying is, that the countryside is full of Spanish-style haciendas/plantations where men on horsebacks crack whips above the heads of BIPOC peons that are worked to death.
Keep protesting, kids! No matter what!

Actually, your knowledge of the local community might be quite helpful in unraveling a particular puzzle I've been presented with, although I would imagine that you might introduce yourself to me in person, first—or someone associated with you. I urge you to do so.
PS: Please do not build the bridge in a Eurocentric way. We need to go full Aztec. 😉
