SAN ANGELO, TX — Official court documents reveal that a dangerous game led to the shooting death of 18-year-old Jordan DeLaCruz.
Norberto Gonzales, 19, of San Angelo, was arrested by the San Angelo Police Department for manslaughter following a fatal shooting.
According to court documents, on Feb. 6, 2026, San Angelo police responded to the Windmill Apartments, located at 1917 Rainey Street, to investigate a shooting. On scene, they located Jordan DeLaCruz in an apartment, who was unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the forehead. Officers located Gonzales inside the apartment and detained him.
A sergeant with the San Angelo Police Department notified dispatch that they would need a detective.
When the investigator arrived, they met with a witness who lives in the apartment with Gonzales and is in a dating relationship with him. The witness said that DeLaCruz is a friend who had stayed the night with them the night before. She had left for work that day around 1:30 p.m., and both Gonzales and DeLaCruz stayed in the apartment.
Around 8:50 p.m., the witness said she received a video call from Gonzales, who was visibly upset and telling her he was sorry. Gonzales turned the camera around, and the witness could see DeLaCruz on the floor in the living room with blood coming from his head. The witness allowed the investigator to view this video.
In the video, the investigator saw a male lying on the living room floor with what appeared to be blood coming from his head.
At the scene, the investigator observed a handgun and a handgun magazine lying in the hallway.
DeLaCruz was transported to Shannon Medical Center, but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Another detective interviewed Gonzales and learned that he and DeLaCruz were playing with the handgun by dropping the magazine out of it and dry-firing it at each other. Gonzales said he believed that he unloaded the gun when he dropped the magazine out of it and pointed it at DeLaCruz. He pulled the trigger, and the gun fired, striking DeLaCruz in the head.
Gonzales was arrested on February 7, 2026, and charged with manslaughter. He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail and is being held on a $75,000 bond.
