AUSTIN, TX — Gov. Greg Abbott emphasized parental rights in education and highlighted recent Texas education legislation Friday during his welcome address at the Moms for Liberty Joyful Warriors National Summit.
“Parents are the most important decision-makers in a child’s life,” Abbott said. “In Texas, we will ensure families always have a say in education and uphold the rights that belong to them.”
During his remarks, Abbott said schools should focus on education rather than indoctrination and emphasized the importance of transparency in school curricula.
The governor also highlighted several education measures enacted in Texas, including legislation expanding parental rights, establishing a statewide school choice program, increasing teacher pay and providing additional funding for public schools.
Abbott described the state's parental rights legislation as the strongest in the country and characterized its school choice initiative as the largest first-day program of its kind in the United States.
He also pointed to what he described as the largest teacher pay raise in state history and record funding for Texas public schools.
Abbott said expanding school choice is central to his goal of making Texas the nation's top state for education.
The governor was introduced at the summit by Tina Descovich, co-founder and CEO of Moms for Liberty.
