World Series of Poker to Host First-Ever Circuit Event in Texas

AUSTIN, TX — The World Series of Poker will host a circuit event in Texas for the first time from April 23 to May 4 in Austin.

The events will be held at the Texas Card House in Austin, located at 13530 US Highway 183 #100.

The WSOP has held events in Las Vegas since 1970, and it began conducting circuit events at various casinos in 2005.

There has never been an event in Texas, largely because the only three casinos in the state are tribal casinos in Eagle Pass, Livingston and El Paso.

The Texas Card House, which opened in 2014, is a private club. Though gambling is illegal in Texas, card rooms can exist by charging for membership and seat fees instead of taking a rake.

The WSOP circuit event in Austin will include satellite events for as low as $130 and tournaments starting at $400, including The First Lone Star Ring on April 23, which included a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.

The Big Tex High Roller Ring event on April 27 has a $3,250 buy-in and also includes a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.

On April 30, the $1,700 Main Event will be held with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

“Texas Card House has spent more than a decade building one of the most reputable and electrifying poker communities in the world,” said Texas Card House CEO Ryan Crow. “The opportunity to host the first WSOP Circuit stop in Texas history is more than an event — it’s a celebration of every player, every dealer, every game, and every moment that has made Texas poker legendary. I am thrilled to see Texas Hold’em come back home to Texas on such a grand scale.”

The WSOP in Las Vegas is scheduled for May 26 to July 15, highlighted by the Main Event on July 2.
