WATCH: Angelo State Adds 22 High School Standouts in Signing Class

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State University football team announced the addition of 22 high school standouts from around the state Wednesday as part of its 2026 signing class, along with five players through the transfer portal.

Among the players signed were two West Texas players — Odessa Permian defensive back Cameron Mattingly and Midland Legacy offensive lineman Dylan Roemisch.

The Rams also signed two players from Stephenville’s defense that posted a shutout in the state championship game in defensive end Caleb Garland and linebacker Caleb Taylor.

Another area player added was Llano tight end Konrad Zwicke.

ASU went big on National Signing Day by inking 10 offensive linemen and two defensive linemen.

The Rams didn’t sign any high school quarterbacks, but they added Carson Woods from Bakersfield College. Manvel’s Kaeden Smith is returning after splitting reps last year with Braeden Fuller, who transferred to the University of Arkansas.

Maddox Maher from Dripping Springs and Ayden Arp from Cedar Park are other QBs already on the roster.

ASU also didn’t add any running backs Wednesday, though the Rams have numerous options returning like Jayden Jones and Cameron Dischler.

ASU did land four new wide receivers — Paradise’s Luke Brown, Rockwall Heath’s Shawn Gary and Prosper Walnut Grove’s Zaiden Crane from the high school level, along with Minnesota-Duluth transfer Charles Gilbert.

Wall's first-team all-state wide receiver Reid Robertson was offered by ASU, along with Lone Star Conference rival UT Permian Basin, but he hasn't announced his college plans yet.

The Rams went 6-5 last season after winning the Lone Star Conference title a year earlier. Despite the down year, the program hasn’t had a losing season since 2016, with a record of 45-15 over the last five years.
