CLYDE, TX — The Christoval volleyball team’s breakthrough season continued Tuesday with a four-set win over Archer City in the area round of the 2A Division II playoffs.
After a decisive opening set, the Lady Cougars had a battle on their hands before prevailing 25-12, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22.
Christoval improved to 30-8, while Archer City’s season ended at 13-14.
The No. 19-ranked Lady Cougars move on to the regional semifinals later this week to face unranked Vega (20-15).
Christoval started its volleyball program in 2022 and had the growing pains you would expect, including a four-win season just two years ago.
They’ve made a remarkable climb since then with 17 wins last year, followed by this year’s historic season, which included the program’s first district title and now its first two playoff trophies.

In 1A, we have a trio of ranked teams — No. 2 Water Valley, No. 6 Veribest and No. 10 Sterling City — who advanced past the area round Tuesday.
