San Saba’s Aguirre Named Texas Football Coach of the Week

SAN SABA, TX — San Saba head football coach Andreas Aguirre has been named the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Coach of the Week for Class 2A.

Aguirre led the Armadillos to a 7-6 win over Coleman last week in a defensive battle.

San Saba improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in District 7-2A Division I. The Armadillos’ only three losses are against teams ranked in the top 10 in the state.

San Saba hosts Bangs (5-3, 2-1) this week in a game that will decide the district’s second-place team.

Aguirre has been San Saba’s head coach since 2019, when he led the Armadillos to the state quarterfinals. He has compiled a record of 51-37 with five postseason appearances and four playoff trophies.

Aguirre is the fifth coach from our area to be honored this season, joining Water Valley’s Trey Sisco and Mason’s Wade Griffin in Week 2, and Ballinger’s Bryan Gayoso and Menard’s Clay Holland in Week 8.

Other Week 9 winners included Little Elm’s Keiston Alexander in 6A, Laredo Cigarroa’s Benny Ellison in 5A, Silsbee’s Randy Smith in 4A, Pilot Point’s Chad Worrell in 3A, Jayton’s Josh Stanaland in 1A and Fort Worth Covenant Classical’s Jeremy Martin for private schools.
