LONDON, ENGLAND — Ka'imi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired Sunday, lifting the Houston Texans to a 34-31 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
The Texans overcame a late interception by CJ Stroud that allowed Jacksonville to tie the game before the quarterback led a game-winning drive in the final two minutes.
Jacksonville tied the game at 31-31 late in the fourth quarter after rookie Travis Hunter intercepted Stroud in the end zone. The Jaguars capitalized on the turnover with a drive that ended in Cam Little's 60-yard field goal.
However, Stroud responded by moving Houston into field goal range, setting up Fairbairn's game-winning kick as time expired. Houston tight end Foster Moreau caught two touchdown passes from Stroud, including a 6-yard reception in the first quarter and a 1-yard score just before halftime.
Stroud also connected with Jaylin Noel on a 13-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, extending Houston's lead to 24-14.
Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence responded with a 1-yard touchdown pass to rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher, cutting the Texans' advantage to 24-21.
Houston answered with a 25-yard touchdown run by Jawhar Jordan late in the third quarter, pushing its lead to 31-21.
The Jaguars continued their comeback in the fourth quarter when Lawrence found Hunter for a 7-yard touchdown pass, trimming Houston's lead to 31-28.
Stroud completed 24 of 34 passes for 312 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, his first of the season. Lawrence finished with 306 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception, completing 24 of 41 attempts.
Houston also received contributions from newly acquired wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who made his Texans debut after being traded from Arizona earlier in the week. Harrison finished with three receptions for 34 yards.
Running back Woody Marks added 56 rushing yards on 15 carries, becoming the first running back this season to rush for more than 40 yards against Jacksonville.
The Jaguars, who fell to 4-2, were hurt by penalties for the third consecutive week. The win moved Houston to 2-4, another game closer to Jacksonville in the AFC South standings.
Houston will return home to face the New York Giants next Sunday before its Week 8 bye. Jacksonville enters its bye week following the loss.
