Angelo State Rams to Host Sul Ross State for Homecoming

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State football team will try to get back on track when it hosts Sul Ross State on Saturday for homecoming.

The Rams have had a rough start to the year with a 1-4 record, which included a 41-14 loss last week to No. 12-ranked Central Washington.

ASU was coming off a 29-28 overtime win over No. 17 Western Oregon, and the Rams had a chance to climb back into the Lone Star Conference race against Central Washington. But the Wildcats flew out to a 29-0 lead to quickly take control, and ASU fell to 1-2 in LSC play.

After a winless 2025 season, Sul Ross has a 2-3 record this year and won 56-43 last week against Eastern New Mexico.

The Lobos haven’t been close in two previous meetings with ASU, however, losing 62-0 last year and 57-10 two years ago.

Sul Ross has two players from Tom Green County on its roster — Wall’s Brady Neal and Lake View’s James Hogeda.

Neal, who was a standout running back, is now a defensive back for Sul Ross. The freshman has made one tackle in limited playing time.

Hogeda, who is also a freshman, was a defensive lineman at Lake View who won a state title in powerlifting. He hasn’t seen playing time yet in Alpine.

Despite ASU’s lopsided loss last week, the Rams had their best rushing performance of the season with 264 yards on 47 carries.

Ashton Dickens, a sophomore from Lockhart, had a breakout game with 102 yards and a TD. Cameron Dischler added 72, while quarterback Ayden Arp had 63.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

ASU will have only two more home games after this weekend — Oct. 24 vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville and Nov. 7 against Eastern New Mexico.
