State-Ranked 6A Team Must Forfeit 3 Games After QB Declared Ineligible

LEWISVILLE, TX — Lewisville, the No. 13-ranked Class 6A football team in the state, must forfeit its first three games after quarterback Laykon Brassfield was ruled ineligible today by the District 5-6A Executive Committee.

Brassfield, a 6-foot-2 junior, has been a breakout star this fall since transferring from Edmond North in Oklahoma last spring.

However, it was determined he was not residing in Lewisville, which makes him ineligible this season.

In three games this year, Brassfield threw for 734 yards and 14 touchdowns, while rushing for 133 yards and two TDs. 

After the DEC’s decision, Lewisville’s record immediately flipped from 3-0 to 0-3. Lewisville begins district play tonight against Flower Mound Marcus, so the forfeits won’t affect its chances of making the playoffs, though the loss of its QB could certainly have an impact.

Brassfield’s family is expected to appeal to the UIL State Executive Committee for a residency waiver, according to Texas Football, and a final hearing will be held at a time to be determined.
