Angelo State Rams Head to Oregon in Search of First Win

MONMOUTH, OR — The Angelo State football team will make its longest road trip of the season when it travels to Monmouth, Oregon, to play No. 17-ranked Western Oregon on Saturday.

The Rams are hoping to return home with their first win after opportunities slipped away in the last two games.

ASU is coming off a 27-19 loss last week against West Texas A&M in a game the Rams led 19-14 in the fourth quarter.

The Rams also lost an 11-point lead in its previous game, a 23-21 loss to No. 11-ranked Western Colorado.

Last week was ASU’s best chance yet at a win as the Rams outgained WT by 140 yards and had an early 12-0 lead, but they were unable to finish.

Dating back to last season, ASU has lost six in a row, a slide all the more stunning considering the program had won 45 of its previous 57 games before the losing streak.

Sophomore quarterback Ayden Arp had a solid game against WT, throwing for 207 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-27 passing with one interception. He also had 18 carries for 81 yards.

Cameron Dischler led ASU’s ground game with 20 carries for 119 yards and two TDs.

Western Oregon will be a significant challenge for the Rams’ defense. The Wolves have the No. 8 offense in NCAA Division II with an average of 500 yards per game, including 298.3 on the ground.

Western Oregon (2-1) is coming off a 45-36 loss to Central Washington, which is now ranked No. 14 in the nation.

It doesn’t get any easier for ASU next week as the Rams host Central Washington. The Rams could potentially be staring at an 0-5 record before they host Sul Ross State, a game in which they’ll be favored.
