San Angelo TLCA Snaps 23-Game Losing Streak

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo TLCA Eagles are finally back in the win column after beating Abilene TLCA, 67-20, ending their 23-game losing streak.

The Eagle Bowl was held Friday night at Lake View Stadium. San Angelo TLCA got things started with a Jackson Chacon 10-yard touchdown run to go up 8-0.

San Angelo TLCA struck again when quarterback Jonah Munoz hit Joseph Luna on a quick pass that Luna took 85 yards to paydirt to extend their lead to 16-0, and they just kept scoring throughout the night.

New head coach Robert Ontiveroz is just two games into his tenure as San Angelo TLCA's coach and he is 1-1 on the season, earning the program's first win since 2023. Since moving up to 3A Division I, the Eagles have struggled, posting back-to-back winless seasons.

“The effort was great,” Ontiveroz said. “I’m happy for them, and they’ve worked really hard. Just to get that monkey off their back … It just means a lot. As coaches, we want it, but the kids want it even more. It’s great to have them reach that goal of breaking that streak.”

From 2024 to 2025, the San Angelo TLCA Eagles put up a combined 96 points over both seasons. This year, they’ve already scored 92 points through two games, but Ontiveroz isn’t satisfied.

“(The execution) was great, and it was good to see, but there’s still a lot we need to work on. We want to build off of this and we don’t want to be satisfied. Again, it’s a start, but we want more than just this," Ontiveroz said.

The San Angelo TLCA Eagles return to the field next week when they host the 0-2 Winters Blizzards.
