Lake View Chiefs Put on Historic Show Against Snyder

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Lake View Chiefs had a spectacular home opener Friday against Snyder with the biggest margin of victory in program history.

The Chiefs' 62-0 win showcased an exciting offense, along with a defense that posted the team's first shutout since 2021.

Lake View quarterback Chris Alvizo threw for 427 yards and six touchdowns on 26-of-34 passing, and he ran for another score to lead the offense.

Meanwhile, defensive lineman Conner Williams blew up one play after another to anchor the defense along with Juan Ramirez, who added an interception for the second game.

Sophomore wide receiver Andrew Young had a breakout game with five catches for 94 yards and three TDs — all in the first half — and all of the scores were highlight-reel worthy.

Lake View had playmakers all over the field as Juju Lacy, Chris Rodela, Calvin Whitfield, Aiden Rivera and Xzavier Hinojos also had TD catches.

"We knew going into the season that we had kids that can make plays," Lake View head coach Hector Guevara said. "We just need to get them the ball and get them opportunities in the open field to go do that. I'm excited to see them have success, and we just need to go build on it."

The 6-foot-4 Young hauled in a 34-yard over-the-shoulder grab to give Lake View a 7-0 lead on its first drive.

In the second quarter, he added a tackle-breaking 27-yard TD catch, followed by a leaping 10-yard TD grab over a defender to push Lake View's lead to 35-0 at halftime.

"I told (Alvizo), 'Just throw it up to No. 3, and I'll go get it," Young said about his last TD catch.

Young then finished off his night at quarterback and threw two TD passes while also flashing his athleticism with a couple runs.

"Andrew's a great athlete, and he brings versatility wherever we put him," Guevara said.

Whitfield had four catches for 118 yards, followed by Rivera (6-74), Gabe Alvarez (6-64) and Chris Rodela (3-61).

Alvizo was outstanding in distributing the ball to seven different receivers. The third-year starting QB has already thrown nine TDs this season.

"I love him to death. He's like my big bro," Young said. "He gets me the ball where I can catch it, and he gets it to where I can do something productive for the team, and he does everything else for the team to help us win."

The Chiefs have now scored a combined 103 points in their first two games. They improved to 2-0 heading into a road game next week at Lubbock High.

Last year, Lake View beat Lubbock High 50-49 on the way to a 7-4 season that was the Chiefs' winningest campaign in 29 years.

"I feel like we're going to have a great season this year. It's going to be like last year," Young said.
