RICHMOND, TX — The University of Texas has landed the state’s No. 1-ranked running back with a commitment from Richmond Randle’s Landen Williams-Callis.
The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Williams-Callis was the most-offered prospect in the state with over 70 offers.
He was the top-ranked running back in the state by Texas Football and the No. 3 -ranked back in the nation, according to ESPN.
Williams-Callis made the decision Saturday, picking Texas over finalists Missouri, Texas A&M, Houston and SMU.
He was the Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year last season after rushing for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns in 16 games while leading Randle to the state final.
He has displayed speed and durability while compiling 7,551 yards and 125 TDs during his career.
He enters this season 3,828 yards shy of the state’s career rushing record.
Williams-Callis comes from an accomplished football family as he is the cousin of former Oregon State running back Jacquizz Rodgers and wide receiver James Rodgers. His uncle was former Colorado safety Michael Lewis.
All three of those players were All-Americans.
