TYLER, TX — The Angelo State baseball team came up short Saturday in its bid to defend its Lone Star Conference Tournament title with a 6-4 loss to UT Tyler.
After losing 11-8 to UT Tyler on Friday, the Rams had to get past Lubbock Christian 6-5 in an elimination game later that day to get another shot at the Patriots.
Ultimately, ASU needed to beat UT Tyler twice Saturday, and the Rams weren’t able to get the first one.
Overall, they’ve lost four of five games in 2026 to their rivals — the same team that ended ASU’s season last year.
The Rams led 3-1 after the second inning, but UT Tyler scored four times in the third inning to take a lead it would never lose.
ASU scored a run in the sixth to get within 6-4 but never got closer.
The Rams dropped to 40-17, while UT Tyler improved to 43-10.
UT Tyler earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament, but ASU is still in strong position to earn one of the top seeds. The Rams were No. 3 in the most recent regional rankings. UT Tyler was No. 2, and Colorado Mesa (48-5) was No. 1.
ASU will learn its regional fate at 9 p.m. Sunday when the NCAA releases its Division II selection show.
