VERIBEST, TX — Veribest High School senior Bryce Martin signed Tuesday to play baseball for Wayland Baptist University.
Veribest doesn’t even have a baseball program, but Martin played select baseball for the West Texas Hooks.
Martin has also proven to be a standout athlete wherever he competes.
He rushed for over 1,100 yards during his junior football season, and he scored over 1,000 points during his basketball career.
Earlier this year, he led the Veribest basketball team to its winningest season in program history and first-ever trip to the regional semifinals.
Recently, he qualified for the regional track and field meet in four events.
The 6-foot, 170-pound is a shortstop and pitcher for the West Texas Hooks. He’ll now look to make the unusual jump from a high school without a baseball program to the college level.
Wayland Baptist is an NAIA school located in Plainview. The Pioneers went 29-21 this past season.
