BRONTE, TX — Bronte ISD announced Julian Helms on Thursday as its new head football coach and athletic director.
Helms will arrive from Oglesby, where he was the defensive coordinator for a program that reached the state final in 2023.
Oglesby went 11-2 last year and lost in the state quarterfinals to Richland Springs. Helms has been at Oglesby since 2021, helping the program compile a record of 55-10.
Helms has plenty of six-man football experience as he played the game in high school at Grandfalls, where he was an all-state player and helped lead the Cowboys to a state title in 2013.
Helms replaces coaching legend Rocky Rawls, who came out of retirement to lead the Longhorns last year. Rawls guided Bronte to a 7-4 record and their first outright district title since 2011.
Bronte’s season ended in the first round of the playoffs last year against Grandfalls.
Julian’s wife, Kara, will also be joining Bronte as a teacher.

Football is racist and sexist. There is no Muslim call to prayer at games and no trans players. Cheerleaders should exclusively be transmen—who are simply men. It's time for the judiciary to step in.
