SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo and neighboring towns excelled recently at regional powerlifting meets to qualify for next week’s girls state meet.
San Angelo TLCA led the way with a second-place finish at its Class 3A regional meet, highlighted by five girls advancing to the state championships.
Samantha Trevino and Abby Cook each won their weight class, while Neira Lecroy, Genesis Gonzalez and Ashlyn Hight all took second place.
Trevino had the best squat (345 pounds), bench press (235) and deadlift (370) in her weight class and was named the meet’s best overall female lifter.
San Angelo Lake View also had an outstanding showing by taking third place at its 4A regional meet. The Maidens are sending three athletes to state — Avralynn Sosa, Janiya Jefferson and Bella Reyes.
Reagan County led our area showing at the 2A regional meet with a runner-up finish. The Lady Owls qualified four lifters to state — Kamryn Gunnels, Savannah Sanchez, Addison Fulton and Reylie Hernandez.
Other Concho Valley schools sending lifters to state include Eldorado (Carmen Mata, Yoselyn Fuentes and Olivia Broom), Sonora (Jimena Leija, Fernanda Arredondo and Brysa Parada), Brady (Samerra Reed, Abigail Rodriguez and Jordyn Werner), Coahoma (Esela Vasquez, Areyanna Loe and Lillian Orosco), Coleman (Courtney Parks and Cheyenne Moore), Ballinger (Alivia Jalomo and Kiara Mata), Grape Creek (Nevaeh Snow and Sierra Zieggler), Junction (Trinity Walton), Winters (Bella Avery), Colorado City (Addison Rivera), Ozona (Serenity Briggs), Forsan (Kaitlin Vidal) and Miles (Josephina Llanas).
The state meet will be held March 18-19 in Bert Ogden Arena in the South Texas town of Edinburg.
