Grape Creek Names Morgan New Head Football Coach

GRAPE CREEK, TX — Grape Creek ISD has found its new head football coach and athletic director.

The school named former defensive coordinator Trey Morgan as the man to replace Tanner Thiel at a special board meeting Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Thiel left last month to accept a job at White Oak after eight seasons with the Eagles. Last year, he led Grape Creek to its first playoff win in program history. The team had a record of 7-5, which was its most wins ever since the program began in 1998.

Morgan retired last year after serving as an assistant under Thiel since he was named the head coach in 2018. Morgan has also had coaching stints at Kermit, Crane, Ballinger, Coleman, Coahoma and Water Valley, so he’s very familiar with the area.

“Grape Creek is in great hands. He is the best coach I've ever worked with and he's an even better man,” Thiel stated in an email Wednesday.

Morgan inherits a Grape Creek team that was recently realigned into District 3-2A Division II with Alpine, Anthony, Coahoma, Crane and Stanton.
