Goodfellow AFB Added to Program Linking Military Spouses with Civilian Jobs

SAN ANGELO, TX — Military spouses moving to Goodfellow Air Force Base can now enroll in an expanded Department of the Air Force pilot that connects them with civilian hiring teams before they arrive. 

The Global Military Spouse Connection program added five installations effective Sept. 22, including Goodfellow and Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas, the Air Force Personnel Center announced. Other U.S. locations now in the pilot are Luke Air Force Base, Arizona; Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho; Travis Air Force Base, California; and Patrick Space Force Base, Florida. Overseas sites include Ramstein Air Base, Germany; several Royal Air Force stations in the United Kingdom; and Kadena Air Base, Japan. 

The program is limited to spouses of active-duty Department of the Air Force service members who have permanent change of station orders to a participating base. Officials said it is not a job-placement guarantee. Career field administrators review two-page resumes, match qualifications to openings, and send qualified candidates to hiring managers at the gaining installation. Eligible spouses generally must be U.S. citizens (with limited exceptions for some nonappropriated-fund jobs), pass a background check, and meet the qualifications for a specific position. 

They may enroll at any time through the Air Force Civilian Service military spouse page or by contacting the program at [email protected]. 

Local Military and Family Readiness Centers can also help. The pilot began earlier this year at Travis, Patrick and Ramstein. Officials said frequent moves often interrupt spouses’ careers even when they have years of experience or advanced degrees. A 2024 survey of active-duty spouses found 20% of those in the labor force were unemployed, little changed from 21% in 2021. The figure counts people who were looking for work. Kayla Amie, a spouse at Ramstein with a master’s degree in organizational leadership, said the program put her resume in front of a hiring manager instead of an automated filter.

“GMSC got my resume in front of a hiring manager who could critically see my skills versus something like an algorithm on USAJOBS,” she said in an Air Force release. “So now I had a chance to prove I can do this.” 

Program manager Enrique Jones said the goal is to ease the financial and career strain of moves. Spouses headed to Goodfellow who want to use the program should submit a two-page resume as soon as they receive orders.
