SAN ANGELO, TX — A memorial honoring more than 20,000 World War II veterans from San Angelo and the Concho Valley will be dedicated Wednesday morning along Rio Concho Drive.
The public is invited to the unveiling of the Heroes on the Concho memorial from 9 to 10 a.m. across from the McNease Convention Center, according to an invitation from the San Angelo Area Foundation. U.S. Rep. August Pfluger and his staff are scheduled to take part in the ceremony, San Angelo Veterans stated.
The memorial recognizes the service and sacrifice of local veterans who called San Angelo and the Concho Valley home. Community donors, local businesses and organizations, working with the foundation and the city, funded the project.
The site features a 6-foot-tall bronze statue of a World War II airman and panels inscribed with the names of 20,542 veterans. Ground was broken for the memorial in June 2024. Additional name panels remain in production as submissions continue.
