Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue to Unveil New Sheep Statue

SAN ANGELO, TX — Downtown San Angelo, Inc. is inviting the community to celebrate the unveiling of Amani, the newest addition to the Sheeptacular public art project, at Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. 

The event, scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, is free and open to the public.

Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue is located several miles northeast of San Angelo at 8317 Duckworth Road.

Designed by artist Ashley Perales, Amani is meant to reflect the hope and peace that are at the heart of PeacefulValley Donkey Rescue’s mission. 

Through rescuing, rehabilitating and finding loving homes for donkeys, the organization provides second chances and brighter futures for animals in need.

The sheep’s name, Amani, means peace in Swahili, honoring the African origins of donkeys while reinforcing the message behind the artwork. 

Guests attending the unveiling will have the opportunity to enjoy complimentary tours of Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, learn more about its mission, and meet the newest member of the Sheeptacular Flock.

Water will be provided during the event.

The sheep is part of Downtown San Angelo Inc.’s Sheeptacular fundraising art project, which now includes about 150 sheep in and around the city.

The Sheeptacular project celebrates San Angelo’s rich wool heritage through uniquely designed sheep sculptures displayed throughout the community, each sharing the story of a local business, organization or piece of San Angelo’s history.
