Active Wildfire Outside Sonora Has Burned 1,200 Acres

SONORA, TX — A wildfire south of Sonora has already burned approximately 1,200 acres and only remains about 25% contained, according to Sutton County Emergency Management.

The blaze, named the Cusenbary Draw Fire, reportedly began Thursday on a ranch about 10 miles south of Sonora.

The fire was exacerbated by 100-degree heat and high winds. The Texas A&M Forest Service had already sent out an advisory that Thursday was expected to have the most potential for fire conditions.

There are expected to be lighter winds and higher humidity Friday as crews battle the fire. Aviation assistance will also be deployed for rugged terrain, Sutton County Emergency Management stated.

Sutton County Judge Joseph Harris has also prohibited outdoor burning in the unincorporated area of Sutton County, effective immediately.
