SAN ANGELO, TX – The Tom Green County libraries are hosting their annual Summer Reading Kickoff party Saturday, June 6.
“Tomorrow will be an opportunity for kids to pick up their reading log to engage in the summer reading program theme this year, which is dinosaurs,” librarian Amy Dennis said.
At the Stephens Central location, 33 W. Beauregard Ave., its kickoff party begins at 10:30 a.m. and lasts until noon. This location will have story time, Jurassic activities, popsicles, crafts, library tours and summer reading logs.
At the North Branch location, 3001 N. Chadbourne St., its kickoff party begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. This location will have a bubble party and summer reading logs.
At the West Branch location, 3013 Vista Del Arroyo Dr., its kickoff party begins at noon and lasts until 2 p.m. This location will have snacks, crafts, photo ops, dinos, and special guests: THERAPAWS.
The library’s summer programs, including their summer reading challenge kickoff party, do not cost anything to attend, and you do not need a library card to participate.
Dennis said they anticipate 150 to 200 people at these events at each location.
To help with transportation, the City Bus Transportation Authority has offered its public buses to take families to and from the kickoff parties, and has declared tomorrow an honorary bus day, where children can ride the bus for free.
At the end of the summer, kids can bring their reading logs back to the libraries and earn a reading medal, a certificate, a free book, and an invitation to their pizza party in August.
“We all are working to encourage our students to keep reading over the summer. We want to help build out and expand the possibilities of reading,” Dennis said. "It’s summer, it’s time to get together and party, so that’s what we hope to do.”
