SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $4.09 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is eight cents more when compared to this day last week and is $1.30 more per gallon compared to this day last year.
Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $4.35 per gallon, while drivers in the Beaumont-Port Arthur area are paying the least at $3.99 per gallon.
San Angelo's gas prices are currently sitting at $4.26, which is an increase of 29 cents from a week ago today and a $1.46 increase from this time last year.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.56, which is three cents more when compared to this day last week and $1.38 more when compared to this day last year.
Current prices are close to what drivers were paying 4 years ago, when the Texas regular unleaded average on Memorial Day was $4.24.

With gasoline demand on the rise and the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, pump prices are likely to remain elevated as the summer travel season gets underway.
“Millions of Texans are preparing to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend, and they’ll be doing so with the highest holiday pump prices in four years,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Higher fuel demand, elevated crude oil prices and ongoing global supply concerns are keeping upward pressure on prices as the summer travel season begins. Drivers can help manage costs by shopping around for the lowest gas prices, combining errands, avoiding aggressive driving and making sure their vehicle is properly maintained before a road trip.”
