San Angelo Animal Services Suspends Dog Walking After Stray Dogs Kill Cats

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Animal Services has suspended dog walking at its shelter this week after two or possibly three dogs abandoned outside the facility were involved in attacks that killed several cats in the surrounding area.

The agency announced the suspension Monday in a social media post, citing the safety of its animals, volunteers, staff and the community as its top priority.

Staff were notified Saturday that the dogs had been abandoned outside the shelter and immediately began efforts to safely contain them, continuing through the weekend, the post said. On Monday, officials learned the dogs had been involved in the fatal attacks on cats nearby.

“For the safety of our animals, volunteers, and staff, there will be no dog walking at the shelter this week,” the post stated. “We want dog walking to continue being a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.”

Dog walking activities will resume once the dogs have been safely detained, according to the agency.
