SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.85 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
That price is 25 cents more when compared to this day last week and is $1.09 more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $4.15 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $3.60 per gallon.
In San Angelo, drivers saw a 32-cent increase from this time last week, with the average gallon of gas currently sitting at $3.97. Compared to this time last year, that is a $1.35 increase.
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.30, which is 27 cents more when compared to this day last week and $1.12 more when compared to this day last year.
After nearly two weeks of declines, gas prices are climbing again as crude oil prices surge above $100 per barrel amid continued uncertainty over when the Strait of Hormuz will reopen. The disruption is adding pressure to global oil markets and pushing pump prices higher for drivers. Fuel prices are now at their highest level since 2022.
“Drivers had been seeing some minor relief at the pump, but that trend has quickly reversed as crude oil prices climb and uncertainty continues around the Strait of Hormuz,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Because crude oil is the main driver of gasoline prices, continued volatility in the global oil market could keep upward pressure on pump prices in the days ahead.”
