San Angelo Gas Prices the Highest in Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.87 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is seven cents more when compared to this day last week and is $1.04 more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in San Angelo are paying the most on average at $4.12 per gallon while drivers in the Lubbock area are paying the least at $3.31 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.17, which is nine cents more when compared to this day last week and 94 cents more when compared to this day last year.

Texas drivers are continuing to see elevated gas prices as the statewide average holds at levels not seen since July 2022. While crude oil prices dipped below $100 a barrel following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, prices have since moved higher again, underscoring the volatility of global oil markets and the fluid nature of geopolitical developments. As long as uncertainty remains in the energy market, drivers could continue to see fluctuations at the pump.

“Gas prices in Texas remain elevated compared to what drivers have grown used to in recent months, and shifts in crude oil prices continue to influence what we’re seeing at the pump,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Even with news of a temporary ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, oil markets have remained unsettled, and that uncertainty can continue to contribute to price fluctuations.”

AAA Fuel Saving Tips

  • Slow down. Gas mileage usually drops at higher highway speeds.
  • Don’t idle too long. If you’ll be stopped for more than a minute, shut the engine off when it’s safe.
  • Use the right fuel. If your car only recommends regular, paying for premium won’t save gas.
  • Lighten the load. Extra weight in your vehicle can hurt fuel economy.
  • Check your tire pressure. Properly inflated tires can help you save gas.
  • Plan your route ahead of time to avoid extra driving and unnecessary stops.
  • Use AAA tools like TripTik and the AAA Gas Cost Calculator to map your trip and estimate fuel costs.
  • Look for fuel rewards. AAA members can save at participating gas stations by signing up for Shell Fuel Rewards®. Members who register now through April 30 will get 35¢/gallon off their first fill at participating Shell stations, and all AAA Fuel Rewards members will save 10¢/gallon during that time period.
