San Angelo Airport Approved for New Restaurant

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Regional Airport was approved for a new restaurant during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

City Council approved a lease agreement with Miguel Vasquez to operate the airport’s 669-square foot concessionaire space.

The eatery will be named "The Co-Pilot Grill" and offer food throughout the day.

No timeline has been announced for when the new business could open.

The airport, located at 8618 Terminal Circle, was the home of Mathis Field Cafe for more than 30 years before it closed in February 2024. Since then, no business has taken hold.

City Council was reportedly considering waiving the first six months of rent to help re-establish a food and beverage option at the airport, which it hasn’t had in the last year, though there have been food trucks.
