Here's How the March 3 Primary Went in Tom Green County

SAN ANGELO, TX — Unofficial results from Tuesday’s Texas primary elections showed low voter turnout in Tom Green County, where 16,497 of 144,936 registered voters participated — a turnout of 11.38 percent. 

No runoffs are expected for county-level races. In the county clerk Republican primary, challenger Lauren Barron defeated incumbent Christina Ubando, 6,837 votes (66.2%) to 3,478 (33.7%). 

Leland Lacy won the Republican primary for judge of County Court at Law No. 1 with 6,024 votes (54.3%). Jessica Skinner received 2,569 (23.1%) and Jana Johnson 2,485 (22.4%). 

Chad Decker won the Republican primary for county commissioner, Precinct 2, with 2,404 votes (60.2%) to Todd Smith’s 1,586 (39.7%). 

Incumbent Susan Werner was unopposed in the Republican primary for justice of the peace, Precinct 1, receiving 1,178 votes (100%). Walter Bryant was unopposed in the Democratic primary for the same position, with 839 votes (100%). In the 11th Congressional District races, incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. August Pfluger ran unopposed and received 11,141 votes (100%). In the Democratic primary, Claire Reynolds defeated Pedro Ruiz, 2,226 votes (51.8%) to 2,064 (48.1%). 

Election Day returns are unofficial until canvassed. 

Texans also voted in statewide races that set up May 26 runoff elections. In the Republican U.S. Senate primary, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn will face Attorney General Ken Paxton. State Rep. James Talarico of Austin won the Democratic nomination. 

For the attorney general position being vacated by Paxton, Mayes Middleton and Chip Roy will compete in the GOP runoff. Nathan Johnson and Joe Jaworski will face off for the Democratic nomination. 

Early voting for the runoffs is scheduled for May 18-26. The general election is Nov. 3.
