San Angelo Appoints Dierschke and Kelton as Assistant City Managers

SAN ANGELO, TX - The City of San Angelo has filled both assistant city manager positions following the retirement of Michael Dane and the recent announcement by Rick Weise of his planned retirement.

"Weise’s decision to step down was made well in advance to allow for a thoughtful and orderly transition," information from the city stated. "As part of the transition plan, Weise will remain on board through spring 2027 to support his successor, complete major projects and help ensure continuity and stability during this key leadership transition."

Tina Dierschke and Shane Kelton, both longtime City leaders with years of experience in operations and administration, will assume the roles previously held by Dane and Weise. Their duties are effective immediately.

“Both Tina and Shane bring exceptional experience, integrity and leadership to these roles, and I am confident they will do an outstanding job serving our organization and our community,” City Manager Daniel Valenzuela said.

Dierschke has served as the City’s finance director since 2013, overseeing the organization’s $200 million budget and the four divisions of the Finance Department: Budget, Accounting, Billing and Receipts, and Purchasing. She worked closely with City Council and management on financial planning, monthly budget updates and long-term revenue strategies. Dierschke also holds certifications as a public accountant and government finance officer.

“This is an opportunity to continue to serve my City in a different way,” Dierschke said. “I see opportunities for improving structure, reducing risk, making systems work and supporting staff so they can succeed. San Angelo has been good to my family and me, and I am eager to continue to serve and make it the best place for my children and grandchildren to live, work and play.”

Kelton has served the City for more than 25 years, most recently as executive director of public works, where he directed Water Utilities, Operations and Engineering Services while supporting the delivery of essential infrastructure and services. Prior to that, he served as director of operations, helping build the Operations Department and leading citywide services such as streets, traffic, stormwater, parks, fleet services and solid waste.

“This opportunity was especially meaningful to me because of my long-standing connection to the City of San Angelo and the people I have had the privilege to work alongside,” Kelton said. “I am grateful for the trust and confidence placed in me, and I see this role as a chance to continue giving back to an organization and community that have shaped my career.”
